Christ the King College had tremendous success at the 2015 Rotary Youth Speaks Isle of Wight heat at Medina Theatre on Tuesday 3rd February, being declared winners in both age groups of this public speaking competition – an unprecedented achievement!
The intermediate team of Tessa Crosbie (chairperson), Elsie Lewis (main speaker) and Jessica Case (proposer of vote of thanks) delivered a polished and highly impressive performance, in a light-hearted presentation on the trials of going on holiday. Their victory ensured that they retained the title won by last year's team, which Tessa and Elsie were also part of.
Following this, the senior team of Megan Rogers (chair), Emily Slatter (main speaker) and Louise Ryan (proposer) took to the stage, presenting superbly, and at times emotively on the topic of image and its undue importance to young people. They too were deemed victorious, completing a College clean sweep!
These young ladies performed with exceptional poise and confidence – they truly are a credit to themselves and the College. Thanks also to Charlotte Blaehr for her support of the intermediate team. Both teams now will represent the Isle of Wight at the District Finals on Saturday 7th March, at a Hampshire venue to be announced.
